A good Camping Kitchen fully stocked is in order. Next to getting a good night's rest, keeping your camper's tummies full is probably the most important aspect of the successful camping trip. Tips for camping are careful planning, practice, and keeping it simple. These are the keys for making camping cooking fun. One of the best parts of planning our camping trips is deciding what we will eat and how we will prepare it. Whether it is simply a hot dog over an open fire or a three course meal cooked in a Dutch Oven, planning what to cook and how to cook it makes camping a true family experience. THE CAMPFIRE

An important part of your Camping Kitchen is the campfire. No matter how spectacular the scenery, meals around the campfire are often the highlight of the camper's day.

Modern camp stoves and specialized cookware make the cook's job easier, but nothing beats the taste and appeal of a meal cooked over the campfire. Success at campfire cooking will encourage you to go camping more often.


OPEN FIRE COOKING

A quick and easy way to prepare an instant meal is the old stand by "hot dogs on a stick". Make your own stick from a green tree twig or buy a large campfork. Either way, plan to do this at least once on your trip. ADDED BONUS: 'SMORES for dessert.


CAST IRON COOKWARE

If you have room and plan on staying in one location for an extended time, nothing beats cast iron cookware in your Camping Kitchen for flavor, versatility and durability. Dutch oven cooking is a great way to add luscious delicacies to your campfire cuisine. The art of Dutch oven cooking, once nearly lost into history, is now being revived. You can treat your family to stews, roasts, side dishes and a wide array of desserts while camping once you master Dutch oven cooking.


CAMPFIRE GRILLING

Grills are simple to use and they tend to make the food pick up flavors from the smoke. Grills over a campfire are used in the same way as ordinary charcoal barbecues. If the food is simply placed on the grill, it may catch fire so it requires constant attention. Handleheld grills that clamp over the food may be used for various tasks like warming food, grilling burgers or sausages or making toast. Cooking on the campfire has for many years been a popular way to cook great-tasting food with a minimum of hassle.
